Polymer Analysis using the New Multi-Sample Discovery X3 DSC

Overview

Polymeric materials, both thermoplastics and thermosets, have long been studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Cure properties, crystallization behavior, and glass transition temperatures are just a few of the material characteristics investigated by this versatile thermal technique. In many instances, the comparison of these material properties from samples that have a different production history, come from a competitive product, or are even assumed to be exactly the same, are critical in many aspects of product development.
TA Instruments has introduced a new addition to the Discovery Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) suite: the Discovery X3 DSC. This revolutionary multi-sample X3 DSC incorporates TA’s patented Fusion Cell and Tzero™ technology to deliver industry-leading performance for up to three samples simultaneously. The new Discovery X3 Differential Scanning Calorimeter will save valuable research time and lab space by consolidating three instruments and three tests into a single operation, opening up possibilities a single sample DSC simply can’t match. In this talk, we will showcase the enormous potential and array of capabilities of the Discovery X3 DSC in the study of thermoplastics and thermosets.

About the Speaker

Gray Slough is currently a product specialist in the Thermal Product group at TA Instruments. Dr. Slough received his BS in physics from the University of Texas at Austin in 1983 and his Ph.D. in condensed matter physics from the University of Virginia in 1990. He joined TA Instruments in 1998 as an applications scientist. Within the Thermal Product group he works to help define and develop the thermal analysis product line at TA, and provide technical support to both internal and external customers.
